Well today i was down at my local venue for the xmas open.
At the draw the talk was of the fancied pegs 9 on both lakes, so when i drew peg 9 on sellwood lake i almost ran to it.
Once at the peg i set up a waggler and straight lead to fish to the island, then it was time to get the pole out.
I planned to fish two lines one with chop worm and caster, the other was to be Got baits atomic pellet with maggot over the top. For the two lines i was going to set up two rigs to cover all options, as this lake is really shallow i setup a 0.2g Rocco to 0.10 mainline and a 0.08 Hooklength. The other rig would be my more positive rig, for this i setup a 0.3g MP his was to 0.12 mainline and a 0.10 hooklength.
Feeding would be simple, at the all in i fed about 100ml of chop worm and caster on the left hand line and a small walnut of micro pellet with a few dead maggots on the other, fired a few 6mm pellets out to the island and cast the waggler over the top, within 2mins i had my first small skimmer of about 4oz
Then nothing, so i refed the waggler line and cast out again, nothing for the next 5mins. Time to have a look over the choppie line, an instant roach was the reward, then again nothing, this seemed to be the pattern for the match, refeed fish then nothing.
This continued untill the last 45 mins when i hooked into a beast over my micro pellet line, after a 20min battle i nslipped the net under a 10lb mirror.
At the weigh in i put 14lb 14oz on the scales which was enough for 5th on my lake. Overall not a bad day which could have been far worse.
