Wednesday 1st June 2011

After a good day at Viaduct on the Monday I was really looking forward to this match and arrived at the venue with Lee "Nobby" Noble ready for the draw.
Knowing Park lake quite well I new that a peg in the high 30's would be a good draw or peg 7-8 would be nice also so when Gary (Gaffa) Williams returned with peg 28 I was a little disappointed, but after arriving at my peg I felt abit better after looking around me.

My main attack was going to be Long pole to the island with 6mm meat as feed and for hook bait, I decided to dust the meat in strawberry Atomic Cloud as I thought this would give me the edge over the lads around me.

My rig would consist of a Hillbilly Rat catcher which would be on 0.14 mainline with a 0.12 hook length and a Xedion Txr7 in a size 16. Elastic would be a J-Range Green which is soft enough to land the resident F1s but also power full enough to cope with the larger carp that also live in here.

I also set up a 5m line which consisted of a 0.2 DC18 tied to 0.18 Xedion pole line and a Xedion Txr7 size 14, on this line I would also feed 6mm meat and hope for some larger fish towards the end of the match.
At the all in I potted some meat at 5m and went straight across with my pole to the island, toss potted in some meat and lowered the rig in, 30secs later the float shot under and I was into my first F1 of the day.

This continued for the next hour, shipping out, toss potting in and then BITE, until I got plagued by Rudd in the 4-6oz bracket, not a bad size, but not what you want when your trying to catch a weight of Carp.
I left the line and came in to try my short line, but after 10mins and no joy I went back across and was into the F1s again.

This was the way the match was to plan out and after trying my short line for the final hour without any joy I felt like I hadn't achieved what I could have if I stayed across. At the scales I put 61lb 2oz on them not bad but I should have caught more. Another 4th so I have continued my run of top 4 finishes but hopefully I will do better next time.
