Monday 30th May 2011 Viaduct Open

This morning saw me down at one of my favourite venues in the country, I left my house at 0730 and made my long trip down the Boring A303 and after an hours drive I arrived at the venue.

As I was 2 hours early for the draw was keen to have a look around the famous SCAREY CAREY where the carp run well into high 20lb+, after my look around I made my way to the shop so I could grab a brew and get some info from Steve and Paul, after a long chat with paul I decided that the bottom bank (pegs 84-87) would be a good bet.

So 1030 came and everyone was laughing and joking about where they wanted to draw, In went my hand and out came peg 86, I was so excited I ran to my car and made my way to the peg.
On arriving at the peg I decided that my main attack would comprise of a straight lead and pellet/meat approach and then a Big waggler with meat fished over the top.

Out of my holdall came my Garbolino super G 10ft bomb rods and I set them both up with my TDX 3012 reels loaded with 6lb Mosella Xedion reel line,  a 3/4 oz Bomb and a 0.20 hooklength and a Guru QM1 hook. On one would be a hair and quick stop and on the other a micro band.

At the all in I baited my hair with a single 10mm pellet and cast it out approx 30m to where the Bar comes off the island, catapulted a few 8mm pellets around it and within 30 sec's the tip rapped around and my rod was nearly pulled from the rest, After a good fight a Mirror of around 8lb was in the net.

Out it went again and and the rod was hardly in the rest when it flew around again this time a skimmer of around 2lb was the culprit, after 2-3 more casts I decided a change was in order and switched to the Big Waggler and it was a good decision as after 5mins the float shot away and I latched into one of Carey's resident MONSTERS, after a good 20mins I scooped the net under a huge mirror carp which at the weigh in I learnt that the fish weighed 18lb 3oz, WOW what a fish.

I carried on the day putting a few fish in the net and was glad at the weigh in to put 83lb 9oz on the scales, which was enough to beat those along my bank but wasnt enough to take the spoils, oh well a great days fishing and some lessons learnt for my next visit.
