well today's match was again at the prolific Withy Farm, which incedentley has recently been taken over by Eastleigh and Distric Angling club, and what a good job they have done with the fishery.
At the draw we all expected to be fishing the Snake but due to 6-8 inches of ice the match was moved to Sellwood and Cottage lakes.
My turn to draw so in went the hand and out came cottage peg 9, not too bad i thought as this is such a prolific peg in the summer months. On arriving at my peg i could see that the ice had been broke by the jcb to about 7m so i proceeded to smash away. After an hour i had an area out to about 5m to fish so i decided to set up the gear.
Two rigs would cover all options the 1st of which would consist of a 0.3g Ds9 to 0.10 xedion mainline and a 0.06 bottom to a 24 MP1b hook, this would be my light rig. The other rig would be incase i hooked into any bigger fish this would be a 0.4g Dc13 float on a 0.12 mainline with a 0.10 bottom and a 20 808 hook.
At the all in I toss potted a ball of Atomic worm in on my silver fish line and it entered the water with the smallest of disturbance then proceeded with a single flouro pinkie on the hook, 10 mins past and my first fish was in the net, it was one of the lakes resident gold fish. Then no bite for an hour, despite trying everything in my arsenal. Then the weather seemed to warm up and i put a run of goldfish and roach together.
This continued for the next hour then nothing for the last 30mins. At the all out the scales came around and i went 5lb 14oz which i thought would do it as i didnt really see many fish caught and i felt the brush of the winners envelope drop into my palm and be snatched back as my fingers closed on it, done, i had been done, by two bleedin ounces by Mayo.
Oh well a 2nd isnt that bad really, and another good outing for the Atomic Worm.
