Well i have been looking forward to this one for several weeks, but after the heavy frost last night I wasnt so optimistic when i arrived at the draw. At the draw I asked Gaz for an end peg and preferrably in A section.
Well when he handed me A15 I was well chuffed and really looking forward to the match, when I arrived at my peg it looked perfect, over hanging trees covered the far bank and this is where I would be having my main squatt attack.
I set up 3 rigs to cover the day, the first would be my punch rig and consisted of the following:
0.3g DS9 to 0.08 mainline and a 0.06 hooklength to a 24 PR31,
the second rig would be my main squatt rig and this consisted of the following:
4x8 DC10 to 0.07 mainline and a 0.06 hooklength to a 24 PR31,
My third and final rig would be incase the resident bream/skimmers decided to have a play and would consist of the following:
4x14 DC10 to 0.08 mainline and a 0.07 hooklength to a 22 B611.
At the all in a fed a walnut sized ball of bread at 5 metres and then potted 2 pots of loose GB over into where my killing zone would be, first put in on the punch line and nothing, not even a sniff for the next 15mins, so I through it up the bank and picked up my squatt rig.
First put in and the rig hadnt even settled before a tiny roach had taken my single squatt hookbait.
I rebaited and went straight back over, another fish straight away, GREAT I thought and fired out half a dozen squatts and continued to catch small roach. This continued untill the middle of the match when I heard a shout from up the section " LEAVE SOME FOR US WILL YA" this brung an instant smile to my face and I continued to catch tiny roach for the rest of the match.
When the scales arrived I put my 104 roach onto the scales and it went just under 4lb, a section 3rd so overall not too bad a result, when I arrived back at the results I learned that I had finished 3rd overall so not a bad day all round.
